Happy Mothering, EcoCrazy Mom and Simple City Life are excited to bring you the Green Your Mom Giveaway Hop, which runs from May 1, 2012 12:01 AM EST to May 7, 2012 11:59 PM EST and are accepting signups now.
I am so happy to be participating in this blog hop among some other great bloggers! Every giveaway prize in the hop will be eco-friendly and something that would be a great gift for Moms! I already have my sponsor secured for this one and trust me you don't want to miss out on it! I think my prize is absolutely fantastic and it's something that every Mom needs! I will post a reminder about the event when it gets closer to the date so make sure you check back. You don't want to miss it!
My son takes his lunch to school with him every day just about. I find that while I do pack his lunch every day it is still way cheaper than him eating in the lunchroom and a lot healthier it still costs money for him to take his lunchbox. And of course when you pack lunches you have to have something to pack sandwiches IN. Buying plastic bags for sandwiches and snacks gets expensive. Not to mention a lot of waste. More than 20 million sandwich bags from school lunches go into landfills in the US. So today I want to introduce you to a great company founded by 3 Moms who like many families today were looking for easy, convenient ways to be green!
From Lunchskins.comWhether you care about our environment, saving money, eating healthy, or looking stylish, LunchSkins are the answer to your plastic baggie blues -- they offer an environmental benefit (reduce landfill waste), a practical benefit (they can be used hundreds of times and save you money over the long run), and a healthy choice (food tastes better in a pastry bag).
Before I get into my review here is some FAQ about Lunchskins borrowed from their website:
What are LunchSkins made of?
LunchSkins are made from a thick cotton fabric that is coated with a food-safe polyurethane liner. This unique high-quality fabric is manufactured in Europe by a family-owned business and has been used for many years in bakeries and restaurants. Additionally, LunchSkins are grease-proof and moisture proof making them ideal for messy sandwiches and snacks.
What makes LunchSkins food-safe?
We have put LunchSkins through a rigorous testing process by an independent lab. They have been certified as lead, Bisphenol-A (BPA) and phthalate-free. The very thin layer of polyurethane has also been tested and found not to migrate into food or leave a "plastic" odor behind, thus meeting EU requirements for food contact. Our test results are available upon request.
Are LunchSkins Dishwasher Safe?
Yes, LunchSkins are dishwasher safe. Because of their origins in the food industry, they are very durable and can withstand high heat cleaning. This makes them perfect for repeated use. We recommend that LunchSkins be turned inside-out and washed before first use and, while lightweight and fast-drying, make sure they are dried completely before using with food. They will soften and fade with use and multiple washings - just like a pair of favorite old jeans
Great right? I know! I am totally in love with Lunchskins already!
As soon I received them I washed them immediately and remember they are dishwasher safe which is a big plus. The next day I sent a Lunchskin with my son to school and packed him his normal Peanut Butter sandwich. The bags are really easy to use and I find they are a bit larger than the normal plastic bags which I usually use which is great. Being that they do have a Velcro enclosure it makes it really easy for kids to open by themselves. I find sometimes even though my son is almost 6 he does have a hard time peeling plastic sandwich baggies apart to get them open. As soon as my son got home from school I dropped the lunchskin into the dishwasher with the every day load of dishes and it came out perfectly. The Velcro enclosure, the seam, and the fabric stayed in tact just as it was when we first got it.
Overall I really like Lunchskins. They are practical and a easy way to take your first steps into being more eco-friendly.
You can purchase Lunchskins on their website in their store. They range in price from $7.85-$10.95!
I am happy to announce that Lunchskins is going to be ONE of my sponsors for the Honor The Earth blog hop starting April 12th! I will be giving away 3 Lunchskins to one lucky reader so make sure you check back for your chance to win your very own Lunchskins!

It's so hard keeping kids entertained these days. Especially if you're on a budget. With the way gas prices are more families are choosing to stay home rather than going out. I know this is true for us. My kids are constantly saying "I'm bored, I'm bored" even when they have a room full of toys & a yard to play in with bikes and MORE toys outside to play with. Finding something to entertain them has posed quite a challenge for me especially with Spring Break and Summer break (OH goodness) quickly approaching. That's why today I am excited to introduce you to a fabulous company called The Orb Factory!
Located in Halifax Nova Scotia, The Orb Factory Limited is a provider of award winning crafts & activity products. They enter 2012, their 21st year in business, with brand new lines and exciting new products. The Orb Factory products are now sold in over 50 countries, have won numerous awards and have become a recognized and trusted name in the toy industry. (from The Orb Factory's website)
For my review I was sent Pirates Sticky Mosaics. My son is 5 (almost 6) he loves Pirates. He pretends to be one and not to long ago he asked me if he could have a pirate birthday party this year. I knew the Orb Factory's Pirate Sticky Mosaics kit would be a huge hit with him.
As soon as we opened the box he dived in. Included in the box were 4 posters and a bag full of the felt stickers which you apply to the posters.
I was kinda overwhelmed by all the pieces but trust me it's really simple. The directions are easy to follow. My son knew exactly what to do. He chose of course. The Pirate to work on first. Since this is a great tool to help kids to learn and match up the correct colors to the numbers I encouraged him to do it on his own and he was able to with no problem. He even told me at one point "Mommy I can do it by myself."
See the tongue sticking out?...that means hes REALLY focused and concentrated on what he's doing :) Overall it took us about an hour and a half to completely finish it and that was us taking a break. It is time consuming but never once did my son say he was getting bored. He really couldn't wait to finish it so he could show his Dad and so he could hang it up in his room.
The Orb Factory craft kits would be perfect for rainy days & weekends and even for parties and sleepovers! The Orb Factory Pirate Sticky Mosaics and are sold online and retail for $16.99. You can connect with The Orb Factory on twitter and on their facebook page!
One lucky reader will win THEIR choice of ANY Orb Factory Kit they have on their website. There is A LOT to choose from and trust me the decision won't be an easy one. Entering is really easy on the Rafflecopter form below! Good luck!

It works on cat urine odor removal as well as feces odor removal, hairballs and other litter box deposits.
(descriptions borrowed from Clean+Green's website)
The Culprit. His Name Is Zorro by the way.
My cat is a clean freak. So am I. He hates a dirty litter box. I hate smelling it. I clean Zorro's litter box at least 2 times a day if I don't he gets mad and does it on the floor. Which is usually never since I accommodate his needs and scoop it after he goes.. Even long after I scoop the litter box there is still lingering odors left from urine and feces. For the longest time I was using baking soda after I scooped but it just got to messy and left a lot of dust around the litter box area. That's why I like Clean + Green's Litter Box Refresher. There is no messy powders. Even though it is fragrance free it works. I scooped, sprayed, and came back and hour later and smelled no funky odors near the litter box. Plus I like it because I can use it on the our linoleum.
Zorro had an accident this morning. I just so happened to have Clean + Green's Carpet and Upholstery by my side when he threw up.
OK I got most of it up with a paper towel before I snapped the pic. I used the Carpet and Upholstery cleaner on the stain. I let it sit for about 2-3 minutes and used a brush to scrub it. This is the end result:
All gone! Wow...this stuff is amazing. I'm not just saying that either. I have used a lot of carpet cleaners. A lot of them geared toward pets that claim to get out pet stains and odors, But I have to say Clean + Green is truly awesome. You can follow Clean + Green on twitter and become a fan on facebook!
You can purchase Clean + Green online or you can check out their store locator for a retailer near you!
Be sure to check back on April 12th because Clean + Green is going to be ONE of my sponsors for the "Honor The Earth" blog hop! I will be giving away 2 cans of the winners choice of Clean + Green products!

This is an issue that is near and dear to my heart. I was bullied when I was in middle school. I never told anyone not even my parents. This is something that is becoming more and more prevalent in our schools and nothing is being done to stop it.
Speak out for millions of kids by joining the online campaign to raise awareness about bullying. For today's Twitter Tuesday, please take a second to tweet or post to your Facebook the message below to help get #BullyMovie trending:
Did u know 13 million kids get bullied every year? I support @BullyMovie. Let's make it a trend: #BullyMovie
If you haven't seen or heard about the movie documentary "Bully" please take a minute to watch the trailer below:
Over 13 million American kids will be bullied this year, making it the most common form of violence experienced by young people in the nation. The new documentary film BULLY, directed by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker Lee Hirsch, brings human scale to this startling statistic, offering an intimate, unflinching look at how bullying has touched five kids and their families.
BULLY is a beautifully cinematic, character-driven documentary. At its heart are those with huge stakes in this issue whose stories each represent a different facet of America’s bullying crisis. Filmed over the course of the 2009/2010 school year, BULLY opens a window onto the pained and often endangered lives of bullied kids, revealing a problem that transcends geographic, racial, ethnic and economic borders. It documents the responses of teachers and administrators to aggressive behaviors that defy “kids will be kids” clichés, and it captures a growing movement among parents and youths to change how bullying is handled in schools, in communities and in society as a whole.

Hollywood Records recently announced today the signing of McClain Sisters, comprised of China Anne McClain, star of Disney Channel’s hit series A.N.T. FARM, and her sisters Lauryn, and Sierra, a trio whose captivating talent and undeniable star quality will inevitably end the music industry’s decades-long quest for a best-selling girl-group.
“We are thrilled to have China Anne, Lauryn, and Sierra, join our music family,” commented Executive Vice President of Disney Music Group, Ken Bunt. “They are three exceptionally talented young artists with a very exciting road ahead of them.”
McClain Sisters lead singer China Anne McClain is an acclaimed young actress who, in addition to starring in Disney Channel’s A.N.T. FARM, a role for which she received a 2012 NAACP Image Award nomination, also starred in the House of Payne television series and the movie The Gospel. The talented trio’s mounting popularity is evidenced by accomplishments such as the A.N.T. FARM soundtrack’s soaring debut at #29 on the Billboard 200, which includes tracks by McClain Sisters “Electronic Apology” and “Perfect Mistake,” as well as notable acting roles in the Tyler Perry feature film Daddy’s Little Girls and a recent performance for more than 72,000 at RODEOHOUSTON 2012.
"We are beyond happy to be joining the Hollywood Records family,” shared the McClain Sisters. “Music has always been a part of our lives and now we cannot wait to share our music with everyone.”
“Rise,” written and performed by McClain Sisters after being inspired by Disneynature’s feature film CHIMPANZEE, is the latest Disney Friends for Change anthem. With the motivating lyrics “Together we can do anything,” the song captures the central message of the program: when kids and families work together, they can inspire each other and their communities to make a lasting, positive change in the world. “Rise” is the fourth Friends for Change anthem to be released with a benefit back to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. This contribution marks nearly $1 million awarded through the music campaign to charities working to protect the planet and conserve nature for future generations.

Ecover just released their new ZERO range, free and clear of fragrances, and their laundry detergents are now 2.5X concentrated! Another great change is their packaging have now switched to PlantPlastic bottles, made from sugarcane and 100% recyclable.
For my review I received a 51 oz bottle of their new Laundry Liquid concentrate ZERO. We were told about 2 years ago that my oldest son had eczema. It was a problem we struggled with daily. We had to be very careful of what we washed his clothes in and what soap he used. Although he doesn't have eczema half as bad today as he did a couple years ago I still like to take the proper precautions and not wash our clothes in anything that would flare it up again. I was excited when the laundry detergent arrived. I opened it up and got to washing right away. Not like I didn't have laundry to do there were easily 4 loads waiting for me. With 2 kids and a husband laundry is really a daily thing for me.
Laundry Liquid concentrate ZERO is:
keeps colors bright
cleans powerfully with half half the dose
plant-based and mineral ingredients
no optical brighteners
not tested on animals
suitable for septic tanks
(from Ecover's website)
Ecover's detergents are 2.5X concentrate you don't have to use a lot of it. Just a small cap full does the job even on large loads.
Ecover. A lot. It got our clothes clean the whites look whiter and they smell clean. It's good knowing that there are no harsh chemicals being used and its Earth friendly.
You can purchase Ecover online or in a wide variety of stores nationwide such as Whole Foods, Inlges, and Walgreens!
One lucky reader will win an Ecover prize pack which include a nifty colorful tote bag and a bottle of Ecover Laundry Liquid concentrate ZERO.
We never really had a winter here in SC. So spring has been here for at least a good month. To me spring means lots of cleaning and organizing and getting rid of clutter. Can I say I actually enjoy it? No I don't but when I find new products that make the cleaning process easier of course I'll try it. So when I got the opportunity to review a new line of cleaning products from Natural House I jumped on the opportunity! Here is the low down of these great new products! Since I have 2 small kids I am always looking for a "greener" way to clean without all the chemicals.
Natural House products are natural household cleaning products. Here is a little more about them:
Cool right? Here is my review of each product:
Flushy Probiotic Cleaning packet is a powerful toilet bowl cleaner + Drain and Septic Treatment in one. The professional strength formula cuts through stains, hard water and calcium deposits in the bowl. Our probiotics continue to consume toilet paper and waste build up in the p-trap, drain and pipes, and maintains the health of your septic system. from Natural House website
OK can I just make something known I hate I repeat hate cleaning the toilet. Who really LIKES it anyway? The Flushy tabs are super easy you just throw them in the toilet, let them fizzle away for at least 5 minutes and take the toilet brush and clean the toilet. I must say. These things really do work great. My toilet stayed cleaner longer after using Flushy. I would definately use it again
Sinky Probiotic Cleaning packet breaks down grease and food scraps to help prevent clogs and slow drains. Used weekly, Sinky will scour your drain and disposal driving out odors at their source. from Natural House website
Going to be quite honest with this one I really could not tell the difference after using Sinky. I don't have a garbage disposal so maybe this product would work better if I did but as far as it "smelling" fresher like I said I couldn't tell the difference.
Trashy Probiotic Cleaning removes odors at their source. Use trashy in your indoor or outdoor trash cans to dissolve odors, grease and food scraps.
After using this product twice I have to say I am quite impressed with the results. We have a lot of trash daily it really builds up through out the day between the kids and cooking 2 meals a day. To be honest since receiving Trashy this is the first time I've deep cleaned my trash can.
One lucky winner will receive a 30 day supply of Natural House's Sinky, Flushy, and Trashy!

My son has been begging me to make brownies for days...I'm sure there is a recipe like this out there somewhere but I just threw it together with what I had on hand that's why they're called Kitchen Sink brownies. Personally I get tired of the same chocolate brownies all the time.
I started with boxed brownies whatever you have on hand is fine make it according to the directions on the box.
Pour it all into your brownie pan. Then top with coconut or whatever you want first. (sorry for the crappy pic my son was trying to eat the brownie batter)
Next I spooned peanut butter on top of the batter and swirled it in. This will also swirl in the coconut.
Then, I topped off the whole pan with chocolate chips and half of the pan with marshmallows (my kids like them but my husband and I don't) I probably should have mixed the marshmallows in to the batter but its ok.
Cook them according to the directions on the box. Which in my case it was about 28 minutes. Let them cool completely before attempting to cut. I know this is hard to do, especially when you have kids (or a husband).
I know they look like your normal everyday brownie but they don't taste like it. They are super rich and have a nice added flavor from the coconut and peanut butter.
1 box of Brownie mix (make according to directions on box)
1/2 cup of peanut butter
1/3 cup shredded coconut
1/3 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
note: I made this recipe up I'm sure there is one out there like it somewhere however I did not copy it from any source.
This week was pretty good for me at Publix even though I didn't have a whole lot of coupons to go with what was on sale, I still managed to do pretty good. The Doritios were not a must have but my son loves them for his lunch box and they were BOGO so I figured why not. Here's what I got this week:
2 Bags of Doritos (BOGO @ $4.29 for two)
Publix Sugar (Not on sale but we needed it) $3.49
2 Kraft Shredded Cheese (BOGO used $1.50 off Cooking with Kraft coupon expired today so I was in luck!)
1 box of Kraft Mac&Cheese (FREE product coupon used -68cents)
2 Boxes of Betty Crocker Au Gratin potatoes (BOGO no coupon)
2 Boxes of Eggo waffles (BOGO used .75 cents off man q in paper)
6 Boxes of Quaker granola bars ($8.73 for 6 boxes used 2 $1.00 off man q's)
4 cans of Libby's green beans (no coupon I missed the IP that was available bummer :/ )
I had $3.00 Walgreens RR I used as well and $1.00 ONYO Catalina from Bi-Lo from something my husband bought. I had 2 Publix gift cards for $6.52 and one for $8.50. The total before coupons and sales was $50.73. After coupons and sales it came to $18.50. My total oop after using my gift cards was $3.48. I saved 64% this week. No to bad!

My son loves the outdoors he loves going fishing with his Dad and playing outside as much as he can. With the warm weather upon us he is excited to get outside and explore. Uncle Milton and National Geographic have introduced a new line of innovative outdoor line for children. I was so excited when I got the chance to review 2 of their new products from their new line. The package arrived and my son opened it up and found that we had received the All Terrain Nature Collector and Expedition Shoe Lights.
The All Terrain Nature Collector features:
Grip and grab action
Snap-on collecting domes
Handles turn for easy collecting
Explorer Activity Guide
This is such a cute toy my son is too freaked out by bugs to actually pick them up with his fingers and look at them so the Nature Collector is a great idea. The collecting domes make it easy to put a bug or whatever you want to take a closer look at it. The handle is easy to maneuver and small enough for little hands. The plastic seems to be durable enough and can with stand the toughest play.
The Expedition Shoe Lights are a great idea for kids. The shoe lights do require 6 AAA batteries which we did not have at the time I reviewed these. They would be great to take when going camping or playing outside at night time.
The Expedition Shoe Lights features:
2 light-up modes: Night View and Path Finder
Attaches easily to most shoes
Explorer Activity Guide
Uncle Milton National Geographic toys range in price from $9.99 to $29.99 and are available online in their store.
One lucky reader will win Uncle Milton's National Geographic All Terrain Nature Collector ARV $19.99! To enter please fill out the rafflecopter form below!
